Creag Bhile

The walk up Creag Bhile rewards you with proper Highland views that justify the leg work from Newtonmore. This isn't a massive peak - it's modest height means you'll get to the top in a couple of hours from the town, leaving plenty of daylight for a pint afterwards.

On a clear day, the panorama across the Spey Valley is genuinely good. You're looking out over the moorland and forest that makes this corner of the Highlands feel properly wild, even though you're only a short walk from civilisation. The climb itself is straightforward enough - steep in places but nothing technical. Walkers of reasonable fitness will manage it fine.

It's the kind of spot that suits people who want a decent Hill day without making a whole expedition of it. Families with older kids can handle it, though younger ones might find the ascent a bit much for what's on offer at the summit. No tearoom, no facilities - just you and the view.

If you're based at Laggan Glamping just down the road, this makes an ideal morning walk before heading to lunch. Invernahavon Caravan Park is close by too, so you could couple it with exploring the wider Monadhliath range. Late spring through early autumn is best - midges and bog in the wetter months make it less pleasant. Allow three to four hours return, depending on pace.
