Creag an Fhasgaidh

The walk up Creag an Fhasgaidh from Tarbert is proper steep and over quite quickly - you're looking at maybe two hours round trip if you move at a decent pace. It's not a long slog, which makes it ideal if you've only got a morning free or the weather's looking dodgy. The summit sits at around 370 metres, nothing massive, but the views across Loch Fyne are genuinely excellent, especially on a clear day when you can pick out the hills beyond.

Walkers will find this one satisfying rather than exhausting. The path is clear enough, though it gets boggy in places and you'll need proper boots - trainers will leave your feet soaked. There's nothing here to suggest it's for tourists looking for a gentle stroll; this is a real hill walk with proper climbing involved.

If you're staying at The Gather holiday park just up the road, it's worth fitting in during your stay. The site's only 5.4 miles away, which means you could knock this off before lunch without any real commitment. Argyll throws a lot of scenery at you, and while Creag an Fhasgaidh won't win any records for difficulty or height, it rewards the effort with genuine Highland views without requiring a full day's expedition. Go when the cloud cover's lifted - there's not much point in trudging up just to sit in mist.
