Creag a' Phuirt

The walk up Creag a' Phuirt isn't technically a Munro - it falls just short at around 3,000 feet - but it's all the better for that. You get proper mountain views without the leg-breaking grind that often comes with the bigger peaks in Stirling.

Starting from near Crianlarich, the path climbs steadily through mixed woodland before opening up to moorland. The final push to the summit takes roughly two hours depending on fitness, and the views across the Trossachs and towards Ben More make it genuinely worth the effort. On a clear day you can trace the landscape for miles.

This works well for walkers who want something more substantial than a stroll but aren't ready for full mountain hiking. Families with older kids manage it fine; younger ones might find the last scramble tedious. The path is reasonably well-marked but can be boggy in places, so decent boots are non-negotiable.

There's a car park at the trailhead, and the whole outing takes three to four hours. No facilities up top, so bring water. If you're staying at Tyndrum Holiday Park - just a short drive away - this makes an excellent morning's work before lunch. It's the sort of hill that doesn't grab headlines but delivers when you're actually standing on top of it.
