Creag A' Chinn Duibh

The walk up Creag A' Chinn Duibh is one of those Scottish hillwalks that sneaks up on you - nothing dramatic on the approach, then suddenly the views crack open. From Strathcarron, you're looking at a proper mountain day rather than a casual amble, but it rewards the effort without demanding technical climbing skills.

The peak sits around 982 metres and gives you those wide Highland vistas that make you understand why people move to Scotland and never leave. On a clear day, you can see across to Skye and down through the glens. The actual ascent follows decent paths for much of the way, though it does get steep in sections - expect three to four hours up and down depending on your fitness.

This is squarely a hillwalker's destination. Families with very young kids will struggle; teenagers keen on proper mountains will love it. The weather can turn quickly at this elevation, so decent kit matters regardless of the forecast looking fine at breakfast.

The campsite itself sits in cracking country for walking, so you could easily combine this peak with easier valley walks on adjacent days. Free to attempt, naturally. Bring proper boots and a map. Allow a full day including stops to actually enjoy those views rather than just bagging the summit and heading back down.
