Creachan Mór

The walk up Creachan Mór from Dunoon is a proper leg-stretcher, and it's absolutely worth doing if you've got a few hours to spare and don't mind some steep bits. This isn't a gentle stroll - it's a genuine hill climb that rewards you with expansive views across the Cowal Peninsula the moment you crest the top.

You'll find the peak sits roughly 2,000 feet above sea level, which sounds more dramatic than it feels once you're actually up there. The path itself is well-trodden but can be boggy underfoot, so decent boots aren't optional. Most people allow three to four hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the summit.

Walkers and hikers will get far more from this than casual visitors - it's not a destination for the lazy or young kids. That said, if your family are keen hill-goers and you're staying at one of the local parks like Loch Eck Caravan Park or Glenfinart, it makes a cracking half-day adventure. The views toward Dunoon and across the water toward Bute and Arran make the effort genuine pay-off.
