Crazy Golf

You'll find this nine-hole putting course right in Ilfracombe, the sort of place that gets busy on rainy afternoons when the beach isn't an option. It's basic stuff - coloured obstacles, a few ramps, nothing that'll challenge serious golfers but absolutely fine for getting kids away from their screens for an hour. The course doesn't require any special skill; most people finish in 20 to 30 minutes, which is about right for the price you'd expect to pay.

Families staying at Hele Valley Holiday Park, just under a mile away, will find it a convenient diversion on a drizzly day. It's the sort of attraction that works best when combined with other things - a walk into Ilfracombe town centre, fish and chips by the harbour, maybe a proper beach session if the weather turns. Don't come here expecting much. It's not terrible, just thoroughly ordinary miniature golf, the kind you'd find at any British seaside resort from the 1980s onwards.

If you're in the area with teenagers, they'll probably roll their eyes and get through it in under half an hour. Young kids aged five to ten might get more entertainment value from it. Check opening hours before you visit - seaside attractions in Devon have a habit of keeping odd times, especially out of season. The nearby Watermouth Valley Camping Park and Sandaway Beach Holiday Park are both close enough that you could hit this between other activities without any bother.
