Craigiebuckler Church

The kirk sits quietly on the edge of Craigiebuckler village, a solid granite building that's been anchoring this corner of Aberdeenshire for centuries. There's something about Scottish country churches that gets under your skin - the way the light falls through the windows, the smell of old wood and stone, the fact that generations of local families have walked through that same doorway.

Inside, you'll find the usual austere beauty of a Highland church: whitewashed walls, simple furnishings, a pulpit that speaks of serious Sundays. This works best if you're already in the area rather than a standalone trip. If you're based at Deeside Holiday Park (just under five miles away), it makes a decent leg-stretch between longer walks or days out to Aberdeen. You won't need more than half an hour here, which makes it perfect for breaking up a drive or squeezing in before heading elsewhere.

The village itself is quiet - properly rural - so you won't find much in the way of cafes or facilities nearby. Go when it suits your wider itinerary rather than planning a day around it. But if you appreciate old kirks and don't mind a bit of solitude, this one rewards a stop.
