Craig Marloch

The walk up Craig Marloch isn't long, but it punches well above its weight for views across Perthshire and into the Highlands. Starting from near Blairgowrie, you're looking at a decent climb of around 1,200 feet, which takes most people 90 minutes to two hours depending on fitness. The path itself is rough in places - proper highland terrain with heather, rocks and the occasional boggy section - so good boots are non-negotiable.

What makes it worth the effort is the panorama from the top. On a clear day you can see for miles: the Cairngorms, Ben Vrackie over towards Pitlochry, and the patchwork of farmland dropping away below. It's wild country without needing a full expedition's worth of planning. The peak rewards you with genuine solitude too - far fewer people make this climb than tackle the bigger names nearby.

Historia buffs might appreciate the views over old Perthshire hunting country, though Craig Marloch itself is more about the walk than any particular landmark. Families with older kids and decent stamina will enjoy it; younger ones could find the exposed sections a bit much. Allow three hours return if you're taking your time and stopping to admire the views.

If you're staying at Nethercraig Holiday Park nearby, this makes an excellent morning or afternoon outing without the drive required for some of the busier peaks. Early starts beat the midday crowds - and there's nothing worse than sharing a narrow ridge with 50 other walkers.
