Court Hill

Court Hill rises sharply above Hawick, a proper slog of a climb that rewards you with views across the Scottish Borders rolling away in every direction. On a clear day you can see for miles - the kind of panorama that makes you understand why this area was fought over for centuries.

The summit sits at 1,440 feet and the path is straightforward but steep. Most people manage it in under an hour from the car park, though it depends on your fitness and how often you stop for photos. There's nothing fancy up top - no café, no visitor centre, just the views and a sense of having earned them. The terrain is moorland and grass, so wear proper boots; after rain it can be boggy.

This is walkers' territory, really. Families with young children might find the gradient tedious, but anyone comfortable on a hill will get proper satisfaction from it. The views are genuinely brilliant - not a "you had to be there" situation, but actually worth the effort.
