The moment you walk in, you're surrounded by proper vintage machinery - think 1920s Bugattis rubbing shoulders with Morris Minors that actually still run. The Cotswold Motoring Museum in Bourton-on-the-Water is essentially a love letter to British and European motoring history, housed in what feels like someone's enormous shed that got wildly out of hand in the best possible way.

You'll find yourself spending longer here than expected. There's a genuinely impressive collection of classic cars, motorcycles, and engines, but what tips it over into something special is the toy collection - vintage Dinky cars, train sets, and model vehicles that'll have adults getting misty-eyed about their childhoods. Kids get it too. They're not bored after forty minutes because there's enough detail and oddment to keep them hunting through displays.

The museum runs on a pay-per-entry basis and you should allow a solid two hours, three if you're a proper petrolhead. Spring and summer are best - the place doesn't feel overcrowded, and there's something about vintage cars that photograph better in decent light.

If you're based at Cotswolds Meadow Glamping just down the road, this is a sensible rainy-day option or a half-morning activity before wandering Bourton-on-the-Water's high street for lunch. It's not groundbreaking, but it's well-maintained and genuinely interesting if you've any affection for how things used to work.
