Corwen Parish Church

The church sits right in the heart of Corwen, a small market town that doesn't try too hard to impress but rewards a proper look around. St Mael and St Sulien Church is what draws people here - a solid medieval structure with enough character to make the detour worthwhile if you're based nearby at Clwydian Glamping Pods or exploring the Ruthin area.

Inside, you'll find the usual mix of stone arches, wooden pews, and that particular smell of old churches that either delights or slightly unsettles you depending on your temperament. The real draw for architecture nerds is the 15th-century work - there's proper craftsmanship on display, though it's not going to stop you in your tracks like the big cathedral show-stoppers further south.

It's free to visit and you can usually just walk in during daylight hours, though it's worth checking locally before making the trip. You'll spend maybe 20 minutes here, half an hour if you're genuinely interested in the carvings and tombs. Families with young kids might find it a bit static unless they're into that sort of thing.

Corwen itself is a genuinely pleasant stop - proper Welsh market town, nothing overdone. If you're staying at Clwydian or doing the wider Denbighshire circuit around Ruthin, the church pairs well with a wander through the town centre and a bite to eat.
