Corsham Court Gardens

The gardens at Corsham Court are a proper Victorian affair - all manicured lawns, specimen trees, and the sort of deliberate planting you don't see much anymore. It's the kind of place where you can actually breathe, which is more than you can say for most attractions near Chippenham.

The grounds sprawl across the estate surrounding the house itself, with mature parkland that's genuinely lovely for a wander. You'll find yourself drifting between formal garden sections and wilder tree-lined walks - it's got enough variety to keep you occupied for a solid two hours without feeling like you're covering the same ground twice. The proportions are generous but not exhausting.

History enthusiasts will appreciate the bones of the place: the estate's been shaped over centuries, and you can read that in how the landscape is structured. But it's really the walking itself that wins here rather than grand focal points or theatrical vistas. Families with younger kids might find an hour enough; teenagers and proper walkers will get more from it.

If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan sites - Roe Deer Fields is excellent, as is The Moors Campsite - this works well as a half-day outing before you head elsewhere. It's not the sort of destination that'll anchor your entire holiday, but it's the kind of place that makes a morning properly worthwhile. Check opening arrangements before you visit, as estate gardens can be fussy about their hours.
