Corby, St. Peter & St. Andrew

The twin dedication to St. Peter and St. Andrew tells you something about Corby's medieval roots - this church has stood here since the 13th century, though what you see now is largely Victorian restoration work done with proper Victorian zeal. Inside, the stone columns rise up into a proper medieval roof, and there's enough stained glass and carved detail to keep you occupied for twenty minutes or so, assuming you're into that sort of thing.

It's the sort of place that rewards a slow wander rather than a quick tick-box visit. The nave's peaceful, the light's usually good, and if you catch it on a quiet afternoon you'll have the place virtually to yourself - which is rare these days. History types will appreciate the medieval bones; anyone after a moment of calm will find it just that.

Corby itself is a town with real character, built partly on ironstone and steel heritage, so this church sits within that story. If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Get Lost In Nature or Rural Relaxing are both under six miles away - it's an easy drive in from Kettering direction and works well as part of a lazy afternoon exploring the town itself. Free entry, naturally. Allow thirty minutes unless you're stopping to study every brass and monument, which you might. Go when you want, really; churches are open to proper visiting hours, though best to ring ahead if you're making a special journey.
