Coopers Hill

Coopers Hill sits just outside Chertsey in Bracknell Forest, a modest high point that rewards the short walk with proper countryside views across Surrey and beyond. It's not dramatic - no precipitous drops or Alpine panoramas - but on a clear day you get real sight lines over the Thames valley, which beats sitting in a car park somewhere.

The walk itself is straightforward and takes maybe twenty minutes from the car park. Families with young kids will manage it fine, though it's a bit of a slog if you're after something truly energetic. History buffs might find the name familiar - this is the famous site of the Coopers Hill Cheese Rolling, an annual madness where locals chase a wheel of Double Gloucester down a steep slope. If you're not visiting during that particular chaos (it happens in May), you'll have the place to yourself.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so come prepared. Bring water, wear proper shoes on muddy days, and don't expect amenities. It's free access, which is fine given what's on offer.

Worth doing if you're staying at one of the caravan parks near Chertsey - Chertsey Caravan Park or Laleham Camping Club are close by - and fancy a proper walk that doesn't eat up your entire afternoon. Pair it with time exploring the town itself or a riverside wander. On its own, it's a thirty-minute detour rather than a day-trip destination.
