Conebury Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Worcester, Conebury Wood offers the kind of straightforward forest ramble that doesn't require a three-hour drive or fancy equipment. You're threading through mixed deciduous woodland - oaks, beeches, the usual suspects - with enough paths to keep you from getting bored but nothing so complex you'll need an Ordnance Survey map. The place works best for families wanting to let kids burn off energy, or for anyone after an honest hour's walk without the drama. Spring's the obvious choice when the bluebells are doing their thing, but it's decent year-round if you don't mind mud.

The woodland sits close enough to Worcester that you could easily combine it with a morning exploring the cathedral and shops, then head out here for the afternoon. Most of the nearby caravan parks - Mill House Caravan Site, Ketch, Peachley - are all within five miles or so, making it a natural fit if you're based at one for a week. It's free to access and you can do a proper circuit in about ninety minutes without rushing, though families with younger kids might stretch that to two hours with stops for exploring. Don't expect facilities like cafés or loos - this is very much a walk where you bring your own water bottle and decide how ambitious you're feeling. Worth the detour from the main Worcestershire attractions, particularly if you're camped nearby.
