Collier's Hill

Collier's Hill rises up from the Kent weald like a proper little exclamation mark on the landscape. It's not a dramatic peak - we're talking about 200-odd metres rather than Alpine drama - but what you get from the summit is a genuine sweep across the Romney Marsh and back towards Ashford, and on a clear day that's worth the short walk alone.

The hill sits within easy striking distance of Ashford, making it a natural add-on if you're based at one of the local caravan parks. Broadhembury, just 1.8 miles away, would make this a convenient leg-stretcher between breakfast and exploring elsewhere. Port Lympne Safari Park is within range too if you're mixing outdoor walks with something for the kids.

The climb itself takes about thirty minutes at a steady pace - nothing steep enough to complain about, nothing so flat that you feel you've wasted the effort. You'll pass through woodland on the approach, which keeps things shaded and pleasant even in summer. Families with primary-school-age children will manage it without drama. Teenagers might find it a bit tame unless they're keen walkers.

I'd allow an hour including the views from the top. Take it on a morning when the light's good across the marsh - afternoon sun here gets a bit hazy. Free to visit, no facilities at the summit itself, so bring water. Worth doing, honest work, proper views. Not a destination in itself, but a solid two-hour excursion from any of the parks within five miles.
