Cobnor Point

The walk out to Cobnor Point takes you through proper Sussex countryside before suddenly opening onto the Chichester Harbour. It's a peaceful spot - water on three sides, mudflats exposed at low tide, and the kind of light that makes you understand why painters keep coming back here.

There's not much at the point itself. A few benches, the remains of what was once more significant, and acres of sky. What you're really here for is the walk and the views back across the harbour towards Chichester. On a clear day you can see right down the water towards the coast. The path itself is easy enough - flat, well-trodden, takes about thirty minutes each way from the car park.

It works best for walkers who appreciate a quiet afternoon and aren't expecting dramatic cliff-edge drama. History buffs might linger longer, hunting for traces of the medieval settlement that once thrived here. Families with young kids could manage it, though there's little to occupy them once you arrive.

Go early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and you'll have it almost to yourself. Low tide is worth timing if you want to explore the mudflats. Being so close to Chichester - just a few miles south - it makes sense as a morning walk during a longer stay in the area.
