Cnocna Ceille

The walk up Cnocna Ceille isn't long, but it's steep enough to remind your legs why you bothered with those new walking boots. This peak sits on the Isle of Arran, and from the top you get proper views across to the Firth of Clyde and back towards the mainland. On a clear day - and you'll need one - it's genuinely worth the huffing and puffing.

It's a straightforward hill walk rather than a technical climb, so families with older kids who don't mind a bit of gradient will manage it fine. Younger ones might struggle with the steepness, and it's not the sort of place to take a toddler. The whole thing takes a couple of hours round trip depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Arran itself is brilliant for walkers - this peak pairs nicely with a broader island exploration.

There's no visitor centre or facilities up here, so bring water and check the forecast before you head out. Weather changes fast on the island, and cloud rolling in kills the views stone dead. Early morning or late afternoon tends to be quieter, though Arran gets busy in summer.

If you're staying at Kings Caves Glamping just down the road, this makes an excellent half-day excursion before or after exploring the rest of the island. The glamping spot itself sits near some proper coastal walks, so you could easily build a few days around the area without running out of things to do.
