Cnoc Reamhar

The walk up Cnoc Reamhar is properly rewarding if you're based on Arran and fancy something steeper than a casual stroll. It's not a massive peak - you're looking at around 300 metres - but the climb is genuine enough that you'll feel you've earned the view at the top.

The summit itself gives you the kind of panorama that makes island geography click into place. On a clear day, you can see across to the mainland ridges and down the length of Arran's interior. The rock underfoot is rough granite, which grips well but keeps things interesting on the descent.

It's the sort of hill that works best for walkers with proper boots and a bit of fitness. Kids can manage it, but they'll need to be keen - there's no gentle option here, and the paths are rough rather than manicured. This isn't a tourist trail; it's genuine upland walking.
