Clophill Lakes draws birdwatchers and serious nature spotters rather than casual strollers, though there's a decent walk around the perimeter if you fancy stretching your legs without committing to a full day out.

You're looking at wetland habitat and reed beds that pull in waterfowl year-round. Winter's best for variety - waders, overwintering ducks, the occasional rare visitor. Spring brings migrants; summer can feel a bit quiet if you're hoping for drama. The woodland edges are proper good for spotting butterflies and dragonflies when conditions suit.

Based near Henlow, it pairs well with Henlow Bridge Lakes if you're doing a parks holiday in the area - that's a full leisure facility with accommodation, whereas this reserve is pure nature reserve stuff.
