Clevage Hills

The walk up Clevaage Hills rewards you with proper sweeping views across Perthshire - the sort of landscape that makes you understand why people settle here and stay. It's a modest peak by Scottish standards, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a doddle. The path climbs steadily through moorland, and on a clear day you'll see all the way to the Ochils and beyond Perth itself sprawling below.

This is walker territory, no question. Kids might manage it depending on their age and your patience - the ascent takes a good couple of hours at a sensible pace - but it's not a casual stroll. History buffs won't find much to chew on here; you're coming for the walking and the views, full stop. The moorland itself has its own bleak beauty, especially when the heather's in bloom.

The nearest base is Perth, which sits handily close at just a few miles' distance. If you're bunking at one of the nearby parks - Maycroft Retreat gets top marks at 5.0, or Greenhill Farm Glamping a touch further out - you could knock this walk out as a morning or afternoon activity. Allow three to four hours for the round trip if you're taking photos and catching your breath.

There's no visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring water and something to eat. The ground can get boggy after rain, so check conditions before you head up. Worth the effort for the payoff.
