The woodland around Cleekimin isn't going to blow your mind with dramatic vistas, but if you're staying at Coldstream Holiday Park and fancy a proper walk that doesn't require a packed rucksack and six hours, this is decent ground. You're looking at mixed forest - the sort of place where locals bring dogs and know the paths without checking their phones.

It's a straightforward affair: paths wind through the trees, nothing particularly steep, and you'll see enough native woodland to feel like you've actually been somewhere rather than just looped round the caravan site. The forest has that typical Scottish Borders character - it's working woodland rather than landscaped parkland, which some will prefer and others will find a bit underwhelming.

Walkers of medium fitness will find it accessible. Kids might manage it depending on age and patience levels - there's not much drama to hold their attention once the trees start looking the same. The nearest town, Coldstream, sits just a few miles away, so you're not exactly in the middle of nowhere, which is either reassuring or disappointing depending on what you came for.

Allow an hour or so if you're doing a loop walk at an easy pace. It's the sort of place you visit because you're staying nearby and the weather's fine, not because you'll regret missing it if you don't. That said, it's a genuine patch of woodland doing what Scottish forests do best - giving you somewhere quiet to stretch your legs.
