Churchfields Recreation Ground

Walking through Churchfields Recreation Ground feels like stumbling onto something the locals have kept to themselves. It's a proper nature reserve just outside Addlestone, the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think instead of fighting crowds.

The ground itself is open grassland mixed with woodland patches - nothing dramatic, but genuinely pleasant for a stroll or a sit-down with a coffee. You get birds, the odd flash of wildlife in the scrub, and enough space that families with restless kids won't feel hemmed in. It's the sort of place where a toddler can run about safely and older walkers won't find it taxing.

There's no pretension here. No visitor centre, no cafe, no entrance fee that I'm aware of - just a reserve that gets on with being what it is. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you're taking it easy, longer if you're doing a proper countryside walk.

If you're based at Weybridge Park Estates or Chertsey Camping and Caravanning Club Site - both within easy reach - this makes a decent morning outing to break up a longer park holiday. It won't be the highlight of your trip, but it's good for clearing your head before heading back to sort the barbecue. Worth a detour if you're in the area, though it works best as part of a broader exploration of the Addlestone countryside rather than a destination in itself.
