Church of the Holy Rood, Edwalton

The Church of the Holy Rood sits in Edwalton, just outside Nottingham, and it's one of those medieval churches that rewards the short drive out from the city centre. You're looking at a proper 13th-century structure with all the architectural bones you'd expect - solid stonework, a decent chancel, and that unmistakable sense of age that makes you slow down and actually look at things.

Pop in as part of a broader Sunday drive round the area rather than as a standalone trip. Free to visit, naturally, and there's usually someone about on weekends.
