Church of St Lawrence Brundish

The Church of St Lawrence sits quietly in Brundish, a few miles east of Halesworth, and it's one of those Norfolk-Suffolk border churches that rewards a proper look around. You'll find a proper medieval building with all the bits you'd expect - decent tower, solid flint walls, and interior that speaks to centuries of worship rather than constant renovation. The kind of place where you can actually feel the age of things.

Inside, there's good timber work and the usual run of monuments, but what gets you is the sheer ordinariness of it all. This isn't a showstopper church with famous painted roofs or must-see statuary. It's real village architecture, the sort of building that's been doing its job since the 1300s without needing to shout about it. History types will appreciate the layering of centuries, but families won't want to camp here for hours.

If you're staying at The Croft Campsite or Savage Glamping nearby, both excellent spots for a rural Suffolk break, Brundish makes an easy detour on a morning walk. The churchyard's worth twenty minutes of poking about, and the village itself is properly quiet. Admission appears to be free, as with most parish churches - just respect that it's a working place of worship. Best time to visit is weekday mornings when you'll have the place to yourself and can actually hear the building settle around you.
