Church 180

Church 180 sits just outside Paignton, though unless you're local you'll probably walk past it without realising quite what you're looking at. It's a working church - modern, functional, utterly unpretentious - and the sort of place you'd only really visit if you're either attending a service or you've got a specific reason to pop in.

There's nothing particularly showy about it, which is rather the point. You won't find yourself wandering round for an hour taking photos. It's a proper community church, the kind that exists to serve the people who live nearby rather than to draw coach tours. If you're staying at South Bay Holiday Park five miles down the road, it's not worth a special trip.

That said, if you're the type who likes seeing how ordinary people worship in ordinary British towns, and you're already in the Paignton area, you could do worse than have a respectful wander round. Just check opening times first - these things aren't always open to casual visitors during the week. Bring a small donation if you go in; these places run on goodwill.

For a proper coastal Devon holiday combining nature, beaches, and local culture, you'd be better off using South Bay as your base and exploring the seafront itself. The church is a nice little addition if you're interested in the everyday fabric of seaside England, not a reason to choose your accommodation.
