Christ Church

The church sits quietly on the edge of Beverley, and you'll find yourself alone most visits - which rather suits a place like this. Christ Church is Victorian through and through, all red brick and geometric windows, built when the town was expanding beyond its medieval core. The interior is straightforward, honest even: pale stone, clear glass letting proper daylight flood in, nothing overdone.

This isn't the sort of building that demands hours. Twenty minutes, maybe thirty if you're the type to sit with a cup of tea in the pews and think about things. The draw is partly architectural - the Victorians knew how to build a functional church that doesn't feel cramped - and partly the fact that Beverley itself is worth the walk. You're minutes from the Minster, which is genuinely one of England's finest churches, and the town centre has proper independent shops, decent pubs, and that particular friendliness smaller towns manage when they're not overrun.

Families with young children might find it too quiet, too still. But anyone interested in Victorian church design, or just wanting a calm corner away from the High Street, will find it pays off. If you're based at Butt Farm Caravan or Willow Pond nearby, it's an easy detour on the way into town - combine it with exploring Beverley proper rather than treating it as a standalone stop. The best light comes mid-morning, when the sun catches those windows just right.
