Christ Church Chatburn

The stone church sits on a rise in Chatburn, a small village between Clitheroe and Whalley, its squat tower visible from the approach road. Christ Church itself is Victorian - built in 1839 - so if you're after medieval architecture, this won't scratch that itch. What you get instead is solid, honest 19th-century design: pale stone, decent windows, and the kind of interior that feels properly lived-in rather than polished for tourists.

It's worth a quick visit if you're already in the area, particularly if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Cross Lane, Calder Farm, or Holgates Ribble Valley are all within easy striking distance. The churchyard is pleasant enough for a wander, and locals are generally welcoming if you want a proper look inside. Allow 15 to 20 minutes unless you're genuinely keen on Victorian ecclesiastical architecture. The Ribble Valley around Clitheroe is strong on walking and outdoor stuff, so this works best as a stop-off during a longer ramble rather than a destination in itself.
