Cefn Fron Hill

The walk up Cefn Fron Hill starts innocuously enough - you're ambling through Shropshire farmland, nothing mad - but then the views open out and you realise why people make the effort to get here. It's a proper hill rather than a gentle slope, so expect proper legs work, but the payoff is genuine. From the top you're looking across into Wales and back towards the Marches, and on a clear day it's the kind of vista that makes you understand why walkers bang on about this corner of the country. The hill itself is grass and moorland - nothing technical, just relentless gradient - and you'll need two to three hours depending on fitness and whether you faff about taking photographs (you will). It's free, naturally. Worth doing? Absolutely, especially if you're based at somewhere like Offa's Pitch Glamping, which is only six miles away. The glamping's become pretty popular, so Cefn Fron works brilliantly as a half-day counterpoint - gets you off the site without needing a full expedition. Families with decent walkers will manage fine. Small kids might grind to a halt about halfway. The best light for photographs is either early morning or late afternoon, and honestly, avoid weekends if you can - it's not exactly Instagram central, but it's well known enough to get busy.
