Castle Road Bridge

The bridge itself isn't much to look at from the road - a modest stone crossing that most drivers probably miss entirely. But stop here and you're standing at a genuine piece of Highland transport history, just outside Invergordon. Built to connect Castle Road with the surrounding settlements, it's the sort of engineering that feels properly anchored to its landscape, grey stone worn smooth by a couple of centuries of use.

Walkers will appreciate it most. The bridge sits within easy reach of some decent paths around the area, and it makes a natural stopping point if you're exploring the wider Invergordon region on foot. Bring a camera if you like industrial heritage - the stonework rewards a closer look, and the approach from either side offers decent views across the surrounding terrain. History types will clock the craftsmanship straight away; it's the kind of thing that tells you how communities moved goods and people before roads became standardised.

There's no visitor centre, no admission charge, nothing like that - just access from the roadside. Twenty minutes is enough unless you're planning to photograph it properly or use it as a waypoint on a longer walk. Nothing transformative, but the sort of genuine local detail that makes a Scottish holiday feel less like a greatest-hits tour and more like actually being somewhere.
