Cashel Lake Upper

Cashel Lake Upper sits just outside Newry, a proper tranquil spot if you're after something away from the crowds. It's a freshwater lake surrounded by moorland and low hills - the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think. The water itself is clear enough for decent reflections on a calm day, and there's a walking path that takes you round the shore if you fancy a gentle amble rather than just standing about with a camera.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need. Free to access, naturally. Allow an hour for a proper circuit walk, longer if you're the type to sit and watch the light change. Perfect as a morning outing if you're staying at Hilltop Hideaway nearby - that pod with the hot tub would be ideal for soaking in afterwards on a chilly evening. You're well positioned for exploring the wider Newry area without feeling you've driven far.
