Cascade Wood

The woodland path into Cascade Wood drops steeply enough that you'll feel your calves working within the first few minutes. It's proper forest - tall conifers mixed with native broadleaves, the kind of place where light filters through in dusty shafts and the ground stays damp even weeks after rain.

What you're actually after is the water. A stream runs through here and picks up enough gradient to create a series of small cascades, nothing dramatic but genuinely lovely to sit beside. The sound alone makes the walk worthwhile - that constant murmur of moving water does something to your head after an hour in the car from Launceston.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a destination in itself - you're looking at 45 minutes to an hour round trip depending on how far upstream you fancy going - but it's exactly the kind of place to decompress between attractions or if the weather's turned grey. Kids aged six upwards tend not to get bored, especially if there's a stream to splash in, though it's muddy enough that you'll need to manage expectations about staying clean.

There's no visitor facilities that I could find, so bring water. Free to access and quiet even in peak season. If you're based at Trewithen Farm Glamping or Ekopod just up the road, this makes a proper morning sortie before heading elsewhere. Well worth the detour if woodland walks appeal to you, but don't expect anything grand.
