Carn Goedog

The walk up Carn Goedog isn't long, but it's steep enough that you'll feel it in your legs. This Pembrokeshire peak sits just a few miles from Clynderwen, and on a clear day the views across West Wales are genuinely outstanding - you can see right across the Preseli Hills and down towards the coast. The summit itself is modest, but that's almost the point. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no nonsense. Just you, the wind, and proper countryside.

It's a walker's hill rather than a casual stroll, though families with older kids will manage it fine if they're used to hills. Allow a couple of hours return trip from the car park, depending on pace and how long you fancy lingering at the top. The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots matter. There's something satisfying about climbing something that rewards effort without requiring technical skill or a full day's commitment.

If you're based at Llwyngwair Manor Holiday Park nearby, this makes for a cracking half-day outing, particularly in autumn when the light's softer and the crowds have thinned. Go early if possible - midmorning onwards and you'll have the hill largely to yourself. The views alone justify the climb, and unlike some Welsh peaks, you won't find yourself queuing to reach the summit. Just straightforward, uncomplicated hill walking.
