Carn Clas

The walk up Carn Clas takes about forty minutes from the car park near Cairndow, and it's proper straightforward compared to some of the bigger peaks in Argyll. The summit sits at just over 2,000 feet, which sounds grander than it feels, but the views back down to Loch Fyne are genuinely good - especially on a clear day when you can pick out the water snaking away south towards the Firth of Clyde.

It's the sort of hill that walkers with young legs will tick off before lunch. Families might find it manageable as a half-day outing if the kids are reasonably fit, though there's nothing spectacular enough to hold attention for hours. The path itself is well-trodden and doesn't demand serious scrambling skills, just steady legs and decent boots.

Head here on a weekday morning if you want the place to yourself. Weekends see a fair few folk from the caravan parks at Drimsynie and Forest Holidays Ardgartan testing their fitness. Neither park is far away - Drimsynie is closest at just over two miles - so it works well as part of a broader Argyll holiday where you're mixing walks with the campsite.

The Cairndow end of Loch Fyne has that quiet, working Highland feel rather than the polished seaside vibe further south. Stop for coffee in the village before or after and you've got a proper day sorted. Not a destination in itself, but a solid, no-fuss walk that earns its place in the itinerary.
