Canford Cliffs Pirate Ship Play Park

The pirate ship at Canford Cliffs isn't your typical playground - it's a proper wooden vessel marooned on the clifftop near Poole, where kids can scramble about pretending they're on the high seas while actually on solid ground. It's wonderfully lo-fi: no fancy equipment, no ticket booth, just that brilliant ship structure sat in the open air with views across the water if you know where to look.

You get what you pay for here, which is nothing. It's free, completely unsupervised, and that's partly what makes it appealing. Kids aged roughly four to ten will have the most fun climbing the rigging and exploring the decks. Younger toddlers might find it a bit much, and teenagers will almost certainly be bored after fifteen minutes.

Allow an hour if you're making a proper trip of it - less if your children tire quickly. The clifftop location means the walk there matters as much as the attraction itself. Bring a packed lunch and make an afternoon of exploring the surrounding nature reserve paths.

For a longer stay in the area, both Burnbake Forest Lodges and Ulwell Holiday Park are within striking distance and highly rated. Position the pirate ship as a half-morning activity before moving on to somewhere with more staying power. It's decent enough for what it is, but don't expect it to anchor your entire holiday.
