Campsall Country Park

The main draw here is woodland and open grassland rolling across 100 acres just outside Doncaster - proper flat terrain, which means you won't be nursing sore legs by the end of the afternoon. Walking trails wind through the site, and there's a decent stretch of the River Went running along one edge if you fancy spotting water birds.

It's the kind of place where families with younger kids won't feel pressured. There's enough room to let them run about without worrying they'll disappear, and the paths are manageable even if someone's in a buggy. Dog walkers clearly make up a good chunk of visitors too - you'll see them at most times of day.

The reserve works well as a morning or early afternoon stop if you're based at Between Rivers Camping nearby. It's only a short drive away, so you won't waste half your day getting there. That said, don't expect dramatic scenery - this is understated Yorkshire parkland, not dramatic moorland. It's worth an hour or so of gentle pottering about, spotting whatever wildlife's about and getting some fresh air between your legs.

Worth noting: the site can get muddy after rain, so proper footwear's essential. There's no café or facilities I could find, so bring your own supplies if you're planning to stay longer. It's free to visit, which makes it an easy add-on to a longer park break in the area.
