Camp Lane Pits - South Pit

A former gravel pit turned wildlife haven, South Pit at Camp Lane is a proper working landscape that's been reclaimed by nature. The water itself is clear and deep, fringed with reeds and scrubland that's transformed what was once industrial into something genuinely wild. You won't find manicured paths or visitor facilities here - this is a serious spot for birdwatchers and anglers who know what they're after.

The lake sits just outside Worcester, making it an easy detour if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like The Wharf or The Coppice. It's a place to spend an hour with binoculars rather than a destination that demands a full afternoon. Great crested grebes, tufted ducks, and the occasional cormorant are regular sightings, particularly during winter months. In spring, it's worth coming back for the migrant warblers.

Anyone with patience will get more from it than families expecting activities or infrastructure. There's limited access around the perimeter and no visitor centre, so come prepared for muddy banks and minimal signposting. Free to visit, though you'll need to respect the working fishery aspect of the site.
