Camlo Hill

The climb up Camlo Hill takes about forty minutes if you're reasonably fit, and the effort genuinely pays off. You're looking at proper views across the Powys moorland once you reach the top - on clear days you can see for miles, which in Mid Wales means actual distance rather than the usual cloud cover.

It's the sort of walk that suits families with older kids or anyone who fancies a decent leg-stretch without needing climbing gear. The path itself is straightforward enough, though it gets boggy in places if there's been rain, so bring proper boots. Allow ninety minutes if you're not rushing and want to sit about at the summit taking it all in.

Llandrindod Wells sits just a few miles away - a proper Victorian spa town with the works - so you could easily combine this with an afternoon in town if the weather turns. Both Wyeside and The Pines caravan parks nearby are well-rated spots to base yourself, and they're close enough that a morning on Camlo Hill before breakfast somewhere in Llandrindod is entirely doable.

This isn't a destination walk that'll dominate your holiday, but it's a cracking hour and a half out of the car if you're staying in the area. The views are genuine, the walk's undemanding without being trivial, and you won't be fighting crowds up there. Worth the detour.
