A working brewery tucked away in the Suffolk countryside near Stowmarket, Calvors Brewery gives you a proper look at how real ale gets made. The sort of place where you can actually watch the brewing process happen rather than just buying a finished pint in a pub - they're refreshingly hands-on about showing visitors what goes on behind the scenes.

You'll see the copper kettles, learn about the grain and hops, and understand why they do things a certain way. If you're into beer, it's well worth a visit. Even if you're not particularly fussed about the brewing side, the end result is drinkable, and there's a shop where you can pick up bottles to take back to your caravan. The staff know their stuff and aren't condescending about it.

Best suited to adult visitors and keen beer enthusiasts rather than families with small children - a brewery tour isn't exactly a toddler-friendly afternoon. Allow an hour or so for a proper look around, maybe longer if you fancy a chat.

It works nicely as part of a wider trawl around the area. Stonham Barns Holiday Park is barely two miles away, making it a quick hop if you're staying there, and Goldings CL Caravan and Motorhome is similarly close. Neither of those parks will leave you bored on a quieter evening - a brewery visit slots in well before heading back for supper.
