Cairn Sasunnaich

The walk up Cairn Sasunnaich isn't long, but it punches above its weight for views. You're looking at roughly 45 minutes to the summit from the car park near Crianlarich - straightforward enough, though the final push gets a bit steep if you're not used to hills. What makes it worth the effort is the panorama once you reach the top. The Trossachs spread out in one direction, Ben Lomond visible in the distance, and on a clear day you can see all the way south across the Lowlands. It's the sort of peak that locals know and tourists miss, which is exactly why it works.

Walkers will get the most from this one - it's not a family stroll, but it's not a serious expedition either. Kids aged eight upwards would manage fine if they're reasonably confident on their feet. The terrain's a mix of grass and loose stone, so boots are sensible. There's no visitor centre or café, so bring water and snacks. Allow a couple of hours total if you want to linger and actually enjoy the views rather than just photograph them and leave.

The peak works well as part of a wider Lowlands walking weekend, especially if you're exploring the Crianlarich area. Free to visit, obviously.
