The woodland around Bush Hills isn't a manicured attraction with a visitor centre and a cafe - it's proper forest, the kind where you actually feel like you're away from it all. East of Colchester, this patch of Suffolk offers the sort of walking that feels genuinely quiet, with paths that wind through decent-sized trees and enough room to breathe. The trees themselves are the draw here, nothing flashy. You'll find yourself on trails that loop back on themselves in that satisfying way that makes an hour disappear without you noticing.

Historically-minded walkers will get more from this than families with restless toddlers - there's no playground or obvious activities, just forest. But if your kids are old enough to enjoy a proper woodland stomp without constant entertainment, the quietness is actually the point. Bring decent footwear; the ground gets boggy depending on rainfall, and Suffolk woodland doesn't always drain brilliantly.
