The wood works best as part of a wider Sussex itinerary rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at one of the holiday parks in the area - whether that's Beech Estate or something further out like Beaulieu Farm - this is the sort of place to head to on a morning when the forecast is mediocre but you can't face driving anywhere. Entrance appears to be free, which keeps things simple. Go on a weekday if you can; weekends bring the whole of Battle out for their constitutional.
