Burnfoot Hill

The walk up Burnfoot Hill catches most people off guard - it looks modest from Auchterarder, but the Perthshire views from the top absolutely vindicate the effort. It's not a brutal slog, but it's steep enough to get the heart working properly, and the summit pays for itself with proper 360-degree views across the Tay Valley and towards the Ochils.

This is walker territory, plain and simple. The path isn't manicured, so good boots matter, and it's genuinely rewarding if you like getting out of the car and burning off some energy without needing an ordnance survey degree to find the way up. Families with teenagers will get something from it; younger kids might struggle with the gradient and lose interest halfway.

Allow ninety minutes return from the base, longer if you're stopping for views and photographs. The actual time depends entirely on your fitness and how many times you pause to catch your breath or admire the Tay below. There's no visitor centre, no café at the top, no facilities - bring water and proper footwear and that's you sorted.
