Burnet Iron

A sprawl of water surrounded by rough grassland and scrubby woodland - that's Burnet Iron, a former ironworking site turned lake just outside Coventry. The water itself is the main draw, a decent size for walking around and spotting waterfowl. On a clear day you get proper views across the water, though it's hardly dramatic stuff.

The appeal here depends entirely on what you're after. Walkers will find a circuit reasonable enough - probably forty minutes to an hour round the perimeter without rushing. Birdwatchers might linger longer; the lake attracts various species depending on season. Families with small children will get a bit of value from it, though there's not much in the way of facilities or attractions beyond the walk itself. It's the sort of place where you go, have a look, and move on - not somewhere you'd spend a whole afternoon.

The real value is as part of a broader park stay. Somers Wood Caravan Park sits just 1.7 miles away, making this a convenient morning or afternoon stroll from your pitch. Gate Farm, another solid option five miles off, also puts you well positioned for an easy visit. Neither park is so far that you'd make a special journey just for Burnet Iron, but bundled with other Coventry-area walks and attractions, it's worth the detour. Go when it's not been raining - the paths can get boggy.
