Bure Park

Bure Park sits just outside Great Yarmouth as a proper slice of Norfolk wetland - the sort of place that rewards a slow morning walk rather than a quick tick-box visit. It's a nature reserve where the reeds do the talking, and if you're lucky, you'll spot bitterns, marsh harriers, or any number of waders depending on the season. The paths are straightforward enough, nothing too taxing, and there's a real sense of being away from the seafront chaos despite being barely a mile from town.

This is genuinely best for birdwatchers and anyone who actually enjoys standing still for twenty minutes waiting for something to happen. Kids under ten will get restless fast unless you make it educational - bring a decent pair of binoculars and a bird guide, and suddenly it becomes an adventure. The light here is exceptional, especially in winter when the low sun catches the water just right.

It won't cost you much - access is typically free - and you can do it justice in an hour or so. The real value is how close it sits to Haven Seashore Holiday Park, less than half a mile away, making it an easy morning circuit before heading to the beach or the arcades. If you're staying at Caister-on-Sea or any of the other parks dotted along this stretch, it's worth factoring in one clear-sky afternoon.
