Bulls Park Wood

Walk into Bulls Park Wood and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - the kind with a canopy thick enough to shut out the sky and a forest floor soft with decades of leaf litter. It's a genuine working woodland near Uttoxeter, not a manicured country park, which means it feels properly wild without requiring SAS-level fitness to explore it.

The main draw is simply time among the trees. Bring a dog and they'll think they've died and gone to heaven. Kids will find plenty to keep them occupied - fallen logs to clamber over, streams to investigate, the general business of being in a place where there's no obvious path and nature gets to call the shots. Adult walkers will appreciate the sense of actually being away from things rather than hiking around a garden with bigger plants.

Access appears to be free, which is brilliant, though you'll want to check current conditions online before heading out - woodland can get boggy and impassable depending on the season. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you want to properly explore rather than just wander ten minutes and turn back.
