Bude Light

The lighthouse sits at the northern end of Bude's seafront, a Victorian-era structure that's been guiding ships past Cornwall's rocky headland since 1873. It's not the tallest beacon you'll ever see, but there's something quietly reassuring about it - the kind of building that makes proper sense when you're standing there watching the Atlantic roll in.

You can walk right up to it. The whole area's integrated into Bude's coastal path, so it's less a separate attraction and more a focal point on a proper seaside wander. The view back towards town is worth the few minutes it takes to get there, especially on a clear day when you can trace the sweep of the beach and the cliffs beyond. Photographers come here regularly, though it's honest work - the light's always changing and the weather's temperamental.

Families visiting Wooda Farm or Atlantic Surf Pods will find the lighthouse walk manageable for most ages. It's free to look at from outside, though you won't get inside - this isn't the kind of place where you're climbing 100 steps for a museum experience. Thirty minutes max is realistic. It works best as a proper breather during a longer coastal exploration, combining it with the nearby Bude Sea Pool if you've got kids in tow, or pushing further along the cliffs for more ambitious hiking.

Best visited when the weather's settled enough that you can actually see the horizon. Winter storms make it dramatic but miserable. Summer brings crowds, but that's Bude generally.
