Broomhall Recreation Ground

The moment you step into Broomhall Recreation Ground, you realise this is proper woodland walking territory. It's a nature reserve that sprawls across Bracknell Forest with enough paths to keep you occupied for a good couple of hours, though you could easily do a quick 45-minute loop if time's tight.

What you get here is genuine forest floor - dense tree cover, patches of scrub, and enough wildlife if you know where to look. Birdwatchers will find it worth a visit; the mixed woodland attracts all sorts. It's the kind of place where families with older kids who can handle uneven ground will do well, but toddlers might struggle with the terrain. The paths aren't manicured, which is rather the point.

It's free to access, and there's no gating or restrictions - just turn up and walk. The nearest town is Windsor, about 15 minutes away, so it works nicely as a morning activity alongside a proper day out there. If you're based at Warfield Park or Scotlands House Campsite nearby, this is genuinely convenient for a no-fuss woodland ramble. Both are rated highly enough to make them decent bets for a few nights.

The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots are sensible. Go when it's been dry for a day or two, and you'll find it's a legitimate patch of forest that hasn't been over-developed or fussed with. It won't blow your mind, but it'll get you under the trees without any bother.
