Broom Hill

The walk up Broom Hill near Kidderminster is one of those rewards that creeps up on you gradually. You don't get a sudden dramatic scramble or a punishing final push - instead the path winds through woodland at a pace that most people can handle, and then suddenly you're out on the open summit taking in views across the Worcestershire countryside.

It's the sort of place that works well for families who've got reasonably confident walkers aged eight or nine onwards, though younger kids could manage it depending on how often they need carrying. The terrain isn't technical, just steady going. Allow a couple of hours there and back if you're dawdling and actually bothering to look about.

On a clear day you get proper sightlines across the Wyre Forest and out towards the broader West Midlands landscape. It's not dramatic or high in the Alpine sense, but it's genuinely worth the leg work if you're in the area. The views themselves are the whole draw here - there's no visitor facility or café at the top, so bring water and perhaps a snack.

This pairs nicely with a stay at Wolverley Camping and Caravanning Club Site just down the road, which puts you within striking distance for a morning outing. Spring and early autumn tend to be best - summer can get muggy under the tree cover on the climb up. Winter is fine if the ground isn't waterlogged, though the footpath can get muddy. Free to access and no facilities to worry about means it's a straightforward half-day adventure.
