Brock Valley Picnic Site

A proper valley spot just outside Preston where you can actually sit down and eat without fighting for a bench. Brock Valley is straightforward - it's a picnic site with room to spread out, grass underfoot, and the kind of quiet that doesn't exist in the town centre. The valley itself does most of the work: rolling Lancashire countryside on either side, enough trees to get some shade if the sun's actually out.

It's the sort of place families bring packed lunches on a weekend, and walkers use it as a halfway point. You're not talking about an afternoon's entertainment here - an hour is realistic, maybe ninety minutes if you've got kids who need to burn off steam on the grass. The appeal is simplicity: fresh air, a break from the car, somewhere to properly sit down with a sandwich.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Wigwam Holidays Kidsnape Farm or Claylands are closest at around 3-4 miles - it's worth knowing about. Beats eating in the van. Beacon Fell View is a bit further out but still within reach for a midweek stop. There's no charge as far as anyone can tell, no entrance gate, just pull in and park.

Go when the weather's actually decent - Lancashire rain doesn't care about scenery. Mid-morning or early afternoon is best to avoid the midday crowds, though honestly you're unlikely to find it rammed.
